Wednesday evening - what to do when friends visit from Queensland?? We dined out at Chatters Midland, followed the Aussie ritual at an Asian restaurant and ordered 4 different dishes to share.
And a great time was had by all - thanks you Terry and Elizabeth.
And to wash down the delightful food, Terry ordered a Merlot... for once he didn't have to drive and we had come in Joanne's new car so drinking was OK for me!
The Merlot, Grant Burge Merlot,was a great drop from South Australia and I would rate it a 2.8/3 and the .2 off was only due to the fact Chatters marked up the price so it was more expensive than if it were at a bottle shop.
High recommended - the wine, Grant Burge Merlot and Chatters Midland!

|Medium Rare Steak washed down with Oyster Bay Merlot|
I am in Sydney NSW Australia today and I called in for lunch at the Coronation Hotel in Park Street in the cbd.
My favourite lunch at home in Perth is a medium rare steak [ just steak on a plate ] and a glass of merlot... usually no change out of $ AUS 50 and this is after my favourite lunch haunt has adjusted their prices down!!
So I was a little sceptical when the steak was just $19 and the merlot, a good quality New Zealand Drop Oyster Bay was just $7.50 for a total price of $26.50 we was just a nudge over half my Perth price. What would it be like I wondered.
The steak was perfection... just enough, medium rare and a sharp steak knife. And my Merlot today was, actually is, as I am still sipping it, a delight.
So, lunch in rainy Sydney is a win!!
Wine 3 glasses out of three, steak 9/10 [ The really sharp knife had to be cleaned a bit but that is what happens with dishwashers ] Value 10/10

|My NEW backpack why so long Wayne?|
I have walked every morning nearly without exception for a coffee and a walk back - in frozen UK, balmy Italy, near LAX in the USA, amongst the lions in Kenya, in heat and sand in Doha, rain, hail and shine [ mostly shine ] in Perth every major city in Perth [ even Hobart! ] and ideas to write always pop into my head - but my trusty computer [ Now a Microsoft Surface - wow they are good ] has been else where.
The solution has always been staring me in the face - a back pack! [ staring me in the back I should say ] This morning is day 2 of walking with my trusty computer strapped to my back.
And I will - I promise self - write every morning and post it here.

Here's a brightly fruited, choc-coated wine you can crack open and drink with ease. Smells of plums, mint and mocha reach out of the glass and tug the nose hairs, whilst the palate is soft, smooth and sumptuous with a rich plummy centre, dusty tannins, and a mellow, fruity finish. Bring on the pizza!

This is a ripping value red from Thorn-Clarke, and at 14.5% it's a more full-blooded number. Aromas of fleshy dark plums and sweet blackberries fill the nasal passages, along with whiffs of mint and mocha. The palates is fulsome, soft and fruity, with gentle tannins, friendly acidity, and a sweetly-fruited choc-like finish. It's a great quaff perfect for those impromptu occasions.

Hailing from Hawkes Bay, this is quite a rich, fuller style of Merlot that shows lots of ripe plums and subtle florals, with whiffs of toasty oak and a sprinkle of dried herbs. The palate is rich, fleshy and fine, with a nice juicy core of dark fruits and plums, fine and slightly drying tannins, and a decent, smooth finish. Great with some spare ribs!
